Thank you to Adult Services Librarian Robin Salthouse for hosting a new series of genealogy workshops and inviting me to speak about lineage societies and how to join them. We had a good turnout yesterday and a preliminary application turned in already to my DAR chapter. Check out the library's Calendar of Events on a regular basis for classes, which take place year round, and for the new workshops, which are at this point an addition for "snowbird season" (our winter visitors.) Maricopa County's SERCL in Gilbert has been especially willing to help fill the void in the East Valley created by the closure of a large LDS Family History Center in Mesa and the state Genealogy Library in the Capitol in downtown Phoenix. Some of the state's holdings are being retained and moved to the AZ state archive building at 19th Ave.& Madison, but as of Friday's AZ Mayflower Society visit to the archive, many were still in boxes and therefore unavailable to researchers and all books are now in storage in the climate controlled shelving area. That means no browsing; you have to know what you want and ask for it.
