New lineage society for Cape Cod, Nantucket, Vineyard, & smaller islands

I ran across this site accidentally yesterday while searching for lineage societies to mention in a talk. It's new, so if you join before the end of 2015 you can be a charter member. It is for people who can prove descent from pre-1700 residents, landowners, tradespeople, explorers, surveyors, and/or military or civil servants on or related to modern-day Cape Cod, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and the Elizabeth Islands. There is a partial list of ancestors but it is very partial. Many people with Mayflower ancestry have a Cape Cod ancestor; fewer islanders can so claim.

You can check out Descendants of Cape Cod and the Islands at their web site http://desccapecodandislands.org/

I posted an inquiry and was emailed an application. The basics are that you fill out their PDF form, submit the usual proofs of lineage and residency/service during the 1600s, and pay $235 if you join before December 31st, $285 if you join in 2016. The good news for those who have already joined one of the stricter lineage societies (that requires a full set of proofs) is that their application may substitute for some of the paperwork you would submit to this new organization. You probably have to check on a case-by-case basis. This is all I know as of right now.

Some of the early settlers have not been "claimed" yet, so if you wish to be the first person to recognize some particular ancestor, that is possible. How, I do not know for sure. Maybe try posting an inquiry and see if someone replies. If you find out, please let me know.

Best of luck to Descendants of Cape Cod and the Islands!
