Today we in the U.S. pause to remember our war dead and decorate their graves, if they have one. If your veterans made it home ok, thank them for their service. I hug would probably be appreciated, too.

Congrats to the Brewsters, who become the 5th family to hit the 100 Pictures mark with the addition of Maria Williams (Simmons) Harrington. Her aunt, Nancy (Stimpson) Dicks was #99.
This is a group formed in 2012 to reenact the activities of the "train band" at Plymouth, MA from about 1621-1640. They are now practicing their drilling, marching, shooting, swordplay, and pikeing in order to be part of the 2020 Quadricentennial celebration. Men and women are welcome, and the under 18 crowd may join if a parent becomes a member. Check them out at http://www.newplimmothgard.org/new-plimoth-gard-hq-page/ or at http://www.newplimmothgard.org/consider-reenacting-with-us-in-americas-home-town-be-right-in-time-for-the-quadracentennial/.
They are also taking part in "Pirates Ashore" on May 21st with several other local organizations. This commemorates the coming ashore of some 80 English privateers (technically not pirates) in 1646 & the ensuing mayhem. Cannon fire and suchlike will be at the pier and the pirate encampment (presumably where the grog will be) is to be on the grounds of the Mayflower House (GSMD HQ.) Singing entertainment will be at the nearby Spooner House, run by the Plymouth Antiquarian Society, and various misbehaving pirates will be roaming old town Plymouth. This is free and open to all, and runs from 9:30 to after 3:00 pm. The "rain date" is May 22nd. For more details, see the Pirates Ashore page on Facebook. If this is as much fun as it sounds and you live somewhere in the area and can get to meetings and events, consider becoming a member. "Able to fire a cannon" will look good on your resume. |
